post-VideoBardo
VideoBardo – great screening presentation by Marisol Bellusci and Javier Robledo from Buenos Aires with incredible translation by Lucia Sellars, hosted by Bristol Poetry Institute and the wonderful Rebecca Kosick. So pleased to be able to continue links begun in 2012 between LW and VideoBardo. Check this website for translated transcriptions and further discussion with VideoBardo. Grateful thanks to Rebecca for making this possible.

2016 Dance and Teenagers with Autism Liberated Words workshops
In 2016 two major workshop projects were screened. The first was FREEDOM a collaboration between Bath Dance College and Creative Writing and Media Students from Somervale School, Midsomer Norton. Devised by Sarah Tremlett, with poet Helen Moore and Howard Vause advising, media tutor Al Hannan was central to the outcome. Secondly, BUTTERFLIES HAVEN project, with teenagers with autism, provided another wholly new and exciting experience. Helen and Howard ran this project superbly and Trisha Williams, director of the group, was very happy with the three films that were made. Also Bath and North East Somerset Council included the films in a reception, celebrating Butterflies Haven, and the parents and carers were really complimentary and very pleased with the revealing results. The films allowed the group to express themselves about subjects that they couldn’t discuss in any other way.
Marc Neys’ Workshop Liberated Words III 2014
Good to share the results of Marc Neys’ workshop at Liberated Words III as part of Bristol Poetry Festival in 2014. The theme that year was Reflections and Memory to commemorate the anniversary of the First World War. We were thrilled to be able to include Marc, who came all the way from Belgium to be there. The workshop was really interesting and creative, and was situated right next to the docks so we gathered some interesting footage, with a theme that included the transience of arriving and departing and new beginnings. Thank you Marc for all your inspiring work!

REFLECTIONS AND MEMORY – Liberated Words Festival III 1914–2014
This festival inspired a number of workshops that were screened at The Arnolfini, Bristol. The video above includes all of them but you can watch individual sections at our Vimeo page https://vimeo.com/liberatedwords
There is a lot to say about each workshop. Each one was absolutely different from the previous one, and meant we were all working from a blank page each time. It was fun and exciting as a result!
I was very fortunate to be the project lead with two wonderful workshop leaders: ecopoet Helen Moore and digital artist and filmmaker (singer and musician) Howard Vause. For The Golden Bird project they excelled in quite a difficult situation working with dementia patients at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, through At at the Heart. A homely situation was created with cake and tea, and a few of the patients came along with family and took part in the workshop. I think Helen and Howard did a wonderful job. A stuffed bird was just the prompt that was needed. It is hard to work with patients who need time to get to know you and think around a subject, but are also hard to keep in touch with, maybe in for a few days then back home again.
Mametz Wood project was with St Gregory’s Catholic College, Bath and was organised through inspiring teacher Tom Fieldhouse for their creativity week in the summer. With an array of Macs to work on, the students, of all ages, really responded imaginatively to Owen Sheer’s reflective poem. Even though it was quite hard to find a quiet room to record sound in!
St Brendan’s School, Bristol, also sent me a couple of films after I visited the school earlier in the year.
During the actual festival in 2014 Lucy invited Marc Neys to run a workshop, which was attended by Chaucer Cameron, Helen Dewbery, Caleb Parkin, Lucy English, Howard Vause and myself. The resulting film is part of this screening. It was a very good workshop. Marc made it fun but informative and gave some lovely examples of poetry films – we used the Bristol docks for our sound and images. The final poem was a joint effort between Lucy and Caleb. Thank you Marc for coming over, and it is good to see that we are all still very much involved in poetry film today!
ekphrastic workshop
This was a workshop run by Sarah Tremlett for MIX conference, July, 2013 at Bath Spa University, Corsham Court. With a few hours, the workshop used the Bath Spa University art collection as inspiration. Everyone found something they liked and created a poem and poetry film around the artwork. The next day the films were screened, some less finished than others, but overall really fantastic results were achieved: the time constraints forced us to be imaginative and resourceful.
Chance Operations Sarah Tremlett
Here is an essay I wrote for the 2012 conference on the treasure trove of the Bath Spa Fluxus print collection, which has mysterious origins. Making art from art is a joy and especially when looking to the past.
Liberated Words at MIX 2012
This screening took place at the first MIX conference. We just celebrated a ten-year anniversary on the 17th July 2022.
